Hypnotherapy

Hypnotherapy uses the mind/body connection to make changes and improvements in your life.

It uses hypnosis, a holistic scientifically-proven technique that uses suggestions with a deep level of awareness. These suggestions are accepted and applied in a personally useful, problem-solving way.

Your unconscious mind is extremely powerful, and responds to the input that it accepts willingly. You cannot do or say anything against your will while you are under hypnosis. You hear everything that is said. You are just in a relaxed state, known as “alpha”, which is the optimum state for your mind to accept and utilise positive suggestions, phrased so you can relate to them. You go into the alpha state everyday. It’s a very peaceful, calm state of mind.

Your unconscious mind is most receptive when your conscious mind is in this relaxed state. Phenomenal changes can be made in your life through hypnotherapy.

Hypnotherapy is simply the use of hypnosis to enable you to take control of feelings, behaviours, habits, and self-image. I could not begin to guess how many times I have heard a client, in describing what they want to accomplish in hypnotherapy say, ” You’ve probably never heard of someone with THIS problem.”

It seems most people feel as if they and their problems are unique among human experience. While our experiences make each of us unique, what we feel, how we respond to the world around us, and how we interact with other people is not unique. We all have the same senses. The way we deal with this life is greatly variable, but only within certain parameters. There are boundaries to human experience and behaviour. Your feelings, thoughts, behaviours, and problems aren’t as strange or unusual as you might think.

People don’t tell others about their fears, doubts, worries, anxieties, or things they think are strange about themselves. Believe me, whatever your difficulty in life might be, it isn’t as strange or unusual as you think. I have never been shocked by something a client told me. As a matter of fact, I haven’t even been surprised in many years. There are only so much humans can do.

Hypnotherapy, of course, uses the mental tool of hypnosis. Many people have seen too many movies or television shows where a writer needed a magical solution to a plot problem and used that mystical power of hypnosis to solve his problem. Hypnosis is NOT mystical or magical in any way. It IS a very effective mental tool that enables people to take control of things that may have seemed beyond their control in the past. Hypnosis is a completely natural, yet different, state of consciousness from the normal waking state. When a person is in the state of hypnosis he is completely awake and alert. He knows exactly what is happening at all times. You cannot be controlled by someone using hypnosis. While under hypnosis, your awareness is actually heightened and carefully focused. You become very receptive to positive suggestions that are acceptable to you, and are able to learn from the artificial experiences perceived in the hypnotic state.

I have been asked, hundreds of times, ” What about those stage shows where they make people do all those ridiculous things?” They don’t MAKE anyone do anything. Think about who goes up on stage and why. These people are volunteers. They want to be foolish and playful on stage and not be responsible for their behaviour. They are having fun. None of them will ever do anything they don’t want to do under hypnosis. No one ever does. A person under hypnosis is only doing what he wants to do.

A well-trained and experienced therapist can use the artificial experiences perceived under hypnosis to desensitise a client’s fears, improve his self-image, or gain other behavioural or emotional goals. Goal achievement is an area of human behaviour where this tool of hypnosis is very helpful. Other areas include overcoming fears, improving sports, performance, stress control and relaxation, elimination of habits, gaining self confidence, sexual dysfunction, and success motivation. Basically, if a feeling or behaviour in your life is undesirable to you, in most cases hypnotherapy can be of value.

The real goal in most cases is for the client to learn effective mental dynamics and take control of his life. There are no easy fixes. There is no magic or effortless cure for your problems, but with a little knowledge, a little effort, and personal responsibility you can make your life what you want it to be. The only magic is responsibility and work. It helps a lot to have effective tools and the knowledge with which to use them well. Your life should be what you want it to be. It is your life.

Take control and get what you desire out of it.

Hypno-analysis provides assistance for anxiety, phobias, panic attacks, inadequacy, stress, grief, agoraphobia, claustrophobia, blushing, bed-wetting, compulsions, unwelcome habits, shyness, inferiority complex, inhibitions, self-esteem, insecurity, jealousy, nightmares, sleeping problems, sports performance, fear of travel, unwanted thoughts, worry and so on

Problems of a complex or deep-seated nature benefit from this therapy i.e. hypno-analysis. This is based on the doctrine of “cause and effect”. The aim of analysis is to search for and discover the original incident (or cause) which has produced the symptom (or effect). This usually stems from something which happened when you were young, when you were probably incapable of dealing with it emotionally. The event was so painful or shocking to you that it was buried or repressed into the depths of your mind. However, it has not gone away and festers inside you until it manifests itself later as a psychological or emotional problem.

Hypno-analysis allows you to discover that cause and once you have verbally released and understood that event, a permanent resolution is brought about and it just ceases to exist. You will find that your perceptions about yourself, your friends and relations, and the world about you will change for the better and you will start to lead a more fulfilled and enjoyable life.

I just use my voice and some pleasant background music to lead you into a gentle, relaxed state, from which we can explore your own unique problem. You will be fully aware of everything I say and of your surroundings, and you will be able to respond with ease. There is no magic involved, no manipulation or mind-control. We just work together, as a team, all for your sole benefit.

Hypnosis dramatically speeds up the process, achieving, normally in around 6 to 8 sessions, what psycho-analysis or counselling may take hundreds of hours to achieve.

Hypnotherapists are not medical practitioners and will not advise on physical problems or medication, so please contact your doctor first, if there is any possibility of it not being mind-related.

Hypnotherapy is the use of hypnosis to get rid of any unwanted feelings and puts your life in the direction you really want.

Hypnosis is a natural state of the mind in which the subconscious mind becomes open and receptive to new ideas. It is in this state, the subconscious mind can be accessed and re-programmed. Bad or unwanted habits can easily be removed and new healthy ones substituted in their place.

You use your conscious mind to reason things outs. When you try to change a bad habit consciously, this is the part of the mind you are accessing. The subconscious mind however, embodies the bulk of your mind power at about 80%. This is where all your life memories are stored. All your habits, behaviours and personality traits reside here.

Situations you encounter in your daily life trigger these memories, habits, or programs buried in your subconscious mind. Like a computer, you behave or react to these events based on your programming. You are helpless to act in any other way. Sometimes, these programs become old, stale or useless in your life today. Once they will have benefited you in some way, but now they are acting against you. Sheer thought, logic, reasoning or will power; is not enough to permanently alter this programming.

The 80% of your mind – the subconscious – always wins in the long run. If we are to make any headway to change anything about you, then it’s that part that we must access. You need to use the process of hypnosis to speak directly to your subconscious mind, thus by-passing all the useless chatter of your conscious mind.*

Then, and only then, can you permanently make the changes you want in your life – in whatever area you desire!

This is a more straight-forward method for the simpler problems such as over-eating, smoking, nail-biting, sports performance, public speaking, examination nerves, driving tests and confidence boosting.

However, some problems may be more deeply rooted and require analytical therapy. For example, a weight problem may be the result of a low self-esteem, caused by a parent constantly telling a child how useless they are, and that internal dialogue continues with that child into adulthood.

Analytical therapy gets to the real cause, whereas suggestion therapy mainly deals with controlling the symptoms i.e. it provides a plan for how to deal with, say, anxiety, when it arises.

It is the most effective way of dealing with smoking, provided of course that person really wants to stop. People are genuinely astonished at its effectiveness in these simple areas.
